We had a client in New Braunfels, TX, contact us looking to further upgrade their outdoor living space. They have a large backyard with a pool area, but they wanted to build out the land around it to maximize its function. Our team started by installing a flagstone patio at the far end of the property, complete with a fire pit and seating walls. We also constructed stone retaining walls at the base of the steps connecting the back of the house to the pool area, which has raised planter beds filled with colorful flowers and plants. Finally, we transformed the surrounding landscape with rocks, gravel pathways, a horseshoe court, outdoor steps leading to the flagstone patio, and plantings.
A Flagstone Patio With a Fire Pit & Seating Walls Was Installed
This project involved multiple elements and features throughout our client's expansive property. They already have a pool area, but they wanted to add another section for gathering. To do this, we installed a flagstone patio at the far side of their land. We used flagstone to achieve a more rustic aesthetic with earthy tones and uniquely shaped stones. A fire pit was also constructed using tan tones to complement the patio, as well as seating walls for durable, built-in places to sit. These seating walls define the space and are built from similar materials to ensure a cohesive look among these features.

The back of our client's house has steps leading down to the pool area, which offered the perfect opportunity to install retaining walls! We built retaining walls at the base of each side of the steps using stones to hold back the soil. Raised planter beds were also incorporated into the walls, which we filled with flowers and plants to bring pops of color. These elements marry function and style, adding depth and texture to their pool area.
The Finishing Touches to This Project Included a Horseshoe Court, Rocks, Steps & Plants
The next steps of this full landscape transformation project were to add the finishing touches! We installed a horseshoe court next to the flagstone patio for yet another activity to do in their outdoor living space. We also incorporated gravel pathways throughout to connect different areas, as well as rocks and small, charming plants in the landscaping to further contribute to the rustic, desert-like aesthetic.
Another element we added was outdoor steps that go from the house to the flagstone patio and the pool area to the horseshoe court. We used large pieces of stone to build them, which matched the boulders strategically placed around their outdoor living space. Our client now has a well-designed backyard that suits their lifestyle and looks great!
